I run rapid interventions — Scramble™ programs — enabling teams and task forces to persevere as they navigate their most challenging situations. For 17 years, I've led these programs and developed practices that work in these unique moments.
Scrambles have now enabled dozens of clients to emerge from dire circumstances or take advantage of business-defining opportunities. See the Situations here.
Before Scramble Systems, I rolled-up my sleeves as a business operator, worked in M&A transaction advisory at BB&T (now Truist), and joined mid-size PE- and VC-backed teams through turnarounds, bankruptcies, and workouts as an operating partner/advisor/interim executive.
Client work spans various company sizes and industries. The common thread? Each team was mandated to figure out a Non-Standard situation: A global CPG manufacturer, a metal fabricator/manufacturer, a VC-backed defense technology firm, a family-run trucking/ transportation business, a 100,000+ member national governing association, a critical care medical services provider, the owner of a 75,000 sq. ft sports complex, a distressed $350MM multifamily real estate syndicate, as well as business and innovation units within TIAA, Manulife, Fidelity, and Microsoft.
Several personal experiences shaped how I think about resilience and what it takes to lead through distress and high-pressure situations. Growing up in a small town, I learned early on how communities and businesses survive shocks — and what happens when they don’t. Athletics also holds a special place in my life, having competed as a D1 NCAA athlete and served as captain, where discipline and teamwork were paramount to achieve any level of success.
To train our next generation's resilience and entrepreneurial mindsets, I’ve also led 1,000s of students through innovation and venture-building intensives at Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, NYU, and other institutions. I hold a BA in Economics from William & Mary and an MBA from Babson College.
All of this is why I built Scramble Systems. My focus is helping teams navigate their most critical moments with clarity, speed, and conviction. We want you and your team to be ready for whatever comes next, and to set precedents when it matters most.
I'm grateful you're taking this time to learn about Scramble Systems.
Scramble Systems was founded in 2008 during a period of massive disruption for U.S. businesses.
Unemployment rose to 10%. Credit markets seized up. Lending standards tightened. Access to working capital froze. Mass layoffs spanned nearly every sector. Commercial and residential foreclosures surged. Consumer confidence fell to record lows. A global downturn ensued, wiping out trillions in wealth and plunging economies into recession.
We are exceptional program partners for exceptional situations. Our work spans 100s of urgent-change programs across enterprises, startups, and institutions.
From our origins operating distressed businesses, we began helping companies proactively engage their critical business challenges before issues became terminal.
Our core team and extended network bring decades of experience as operators and leaders. We draw from battalions and boardrooms, manufacturing floors and truck yards, value-driving PE and mission-driven nonprofits, trade schools and elite universities, laboratories and kitchens, and Olympic arenas and crisis rooms.
